'En Plein Air' means painting in the outdoors! These paintings are very different from studio paintings because they are generally completed in an hour or two and very much outside in the fresh air. They are painted from life too so the weather is a strong influence on colours and texture. This is a difficult form of painting for me because I have the neurological condition 'Benign Essential Tremor' which causes my hands to shake. In my studio I can brace my hands against my easel or with a mahl stick but when painting outside it's much harder so sometimes my lines are wobbly! I think it adds charm! I'm hoping to add more to this page as I get out painting with friends over the summer!
